Washington Global Health Alliance has chosen Terrewode Women’s Community Hospital Co-Founder and Executive Director Alice Emasu to receive its 2023 Luminary Leader Award for her “exceptional leadership and a relentless commitment to the global health community."
“Alice has supported thousands of women suffering from obstetric fistula and other childbirth injuries, to receive holistic and patient-centered treatment at the only specialized obstetric fistula hospital in Uganda," WGHA said in announcing the award.
“Alice is a courageous advocate for Uganda’s most vulnerable, and she worked tirelessly to make her vision of a dedicated fistula hospital a reality. I am so honored to work in partnership with Alice and I am continuously inspired by her compassion and dedication." — Bonnie Ruder, Terrewode Women's Fund Executive Director
WGHA honored Alice and other awardees at its Global Health Impact Awards fundraiser on October 4 at the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture in Seattle.
