Mothers and babies deserve better

At most hospitals in Uganda, women in labor lie side by side in large, open wards as they prepare to give birth. There are no curtains, no quiet, and no privacy during one of life’s most vulnerable moments.
Mothers and babies deserve better. Privacy in labor is not a luxury. It is essential. That’s why we’ve designed Terrewode Maternity with smaller, private labor and delivery suites, where each woman can remain in one safe, supportive space throughout her entire birthing journey.
We know this type of birthing environment leads to better outcomes for both mothers and babies. Families can begin bonding from a child’s very first breath. Doctors, nurses, and midwives can detect complications sooner, preventing devastating childbirth injuries like fistula before they even begin.
We partnered with Build Health International, global experts in maternal and child health facility design, alongside the Ugandan firm Creation Architects, to turn our vision for Terrewode Maternity into reality. Together, we are creating a space built for safer births, earlier detection of complications, and more respectful, dignified care for women and families across Eastern
Uganda.
This is more than a maternity ward.
This is the beginning of the end of fistula.
